Brainwashing your kids

We are using a projector to enjoy some movies this Holiday Season. As he is setting it up and checking it out he starts a Star Trek episode. As soon as the music and the logo comes on the kids about explode with excitement.

Attitude

Last Sunday Mike and I were sitting up on the stand with the choir after the sacrament had been passed and I had arranged for a young woman to sit with the kids. She brought a friend with her, its ok, I promise, both really good kids, 18 yrs old and in our sunday school class. They were doing a pretty good job, the kids weren't bugging anyone. Actually really good for my kids. At one point Henry dissapears. I finally notice him rolling around under the benches. They keep trying to get him to sit up and sit on the bench. Not happening.

Then Libby disapears. So girl #1 says: Libby come sit on the bench please.

Libby ignores her

Girl #2 says: Libby you need to come sit on the bench please.

Libby: I heard her the first time thank you very much!

They both die trying to control their laughter.

I just can't wait anymore!

I don't know how people do it! I can keep a secret. But how do you keep a secret that you want to tell people and you are just too excited? Well, we are going to have a baby in July! (due July 8th, but knowing me it will be a June Baby!)

We aren't telling the kids yet, so please help us keep that secret. I just don't want them complaining for the next 7 months that the baby isn't here yet!

Window

On Monday I was getting on the freeway and heard a pop, and also kind of felt it. Scared me. I finally got turned around enough to see that my side back window was shattering. I could hear it shattering too. I was worried that the window would fall out and I would either have a big mess in the car or get in trouble for littering on the freeway. So I pulled over and assessed the damage. I could see that the whole window was shattered and staying together somehow. I called Mike and asked him to bring tape so we could tape up the garbage sacks I had. This way if it did end up falling it wouldn't make a mess anywhere. While I was waiting an officer and two strangers stopped and offered help. There wasn't anything any of them could do but I was very impressed with their willingness to help. How often do I just blow by someone who has pulled over? I finally made it home and put Mike in charge of figuring out how to fix it. I drove it to work on Tuesday and after school got in my car to come home. I closed my door and heard glass falling. Yup, I now had a big hole in my window. What you see is after it grew. I got out to check how much had fallen, got back in, and shutting my door created another smaller hole. As I was driving I kept hearing glass falling, it was staying in the sacks and the two holes had combined into the big hole you can see through the sack! So I stopped and traded Mike cars cause it was causing me too much stress to keep driving it. He got it fixed, so now my window is fine, but wow! The weird things we have to deal with sometimes.

I am going to try to upload a slideshow of the pictures that I took on our trip to Michigan. (there are almost 200 pictures, sorry!) Here is a recap of what we, my brother David and I did.
On Friday we flew to Chicago. When we got there we went and found some Pizza. From what we were told it is Chicago style pizza. I don't care if it was or not. I think that is the best pizza I have EVER had. mmmmmm. That was at Gino's East. There is a picture of the restaurant, just in case you were wondering what it was.
Saturday we got up early and drove through Chicago via the freeway, wait, I am going to call them freeway's out of habit but they are mostly toll roads. That was fun, NOT. I managed to snap a couple pictures of downtown Chicago as we drove past. There are better pictures later because we were later able to go downtown. On the way we passed some cars that were on their way to the game also. They had Michigan flags and what-not on their cars. So we put a jersey on the back of the seat so they knew that we were Utah fans.
Once we go to Ann Arbor we went to the mall dressed in our Utah garb for the game. It was fun watching all the people in their Michigan stuff whisper behind our backs. "They are from Utah!" (Really?) Then we walked the2 miles from our hotel to the game. We had some people honking at as and other things. We just waved back :)
As you know we won the game. I got a lot of pictures of the stadium and all the people there. It was amazing to have 108,000 people so quiet when I can't get 30 students to be quiet. I am definitely going to have to study this further.
Sunday morning we again got up early so we could drive down to South Bend via Ohio. I think we both wanted to add another state to our lists. So I got a lot of pictures at Notre Dame. I even got one of them painting the helmets, sorry they don't do it by hand.
I even managed to get a picture of the McDonald's in the middle of the free way!! And the train that runs down the middle of the freeway. Very odd for me. We drove around downtown Chicago for about an hour. We weren't planning on having time to do this so we were just driving and seeing what we could see. Probably missed a lot. Chris if you ever read this there is a picture of a building that I need identified. I have no idea what it is, but it sure looks cool.
Before we went to the airport we stopped for lunch. Where we were was just outside of the airport. The planes kept coming in. I can't believe how low they come in over some buildings. So I had to take a couple pictures of that. I am crazy, I know.
Oh and in case you haven't hear yet, we beat Michigan, 25-23! They managed to keep their lead, YEAH!!!!!

How was everybody's trip back to Utah (or various locals)? I enjoyed the game here in Ann Arbor (I grew up in Utah but now live here in Michigan) from the 2nd row up on the south 5 yard line (It does pay to have connections).

Couple of compliments for all you fans that went to the game from the people here:

First I have heard several comments from coworkers and others around her(e), about how impressed they were that Utah had so many fans make the trip to Ann Arbor. While its been over 10 years since I last was in the "Big House", according to several here, we had as many, if not more fans, than even some of the Big-10 rivals bring in.

And second, I have heard several compliments from the people here how friendly and pleasant most all the Utah fans were.

Anyway It has been fun and thanks to all you who made the trip.

I was going through the little notebook that I keep in my purse for such occasions:
Henry in car: Why'd you kiss daddy?
Mom: because I like him
Libby/Henry: And then you married her!
Henry: You're a genius Buddy!

Kids say the darndest things!

Just a couple things the kids have said lately that have cracked me up:

1- Libby came up the other night at 10 pm and said that she was having a hard time sleeping. We finally convinced her that she needed to go back to bed and try for just a little bit longer. Mike was volunteered to go tuck her in again. He offered to carry a blanket that she had left in our room down for her. Her reply was, "No thanks, you can carry the rest of my stuff though." She had come prepared to spend the rest of the night in our room. She had a pillow and another blanket waiting outside our door.

2- Henry actually put himself down for a nap. I found him on the floor of his room. I managed to get him to go potty and put on a diaper before going to sleep. We got him all situated again and I got back into the kitchen to help Libby and he is already up, "Mom! I woke up." I guess in order to wake up you don't have to go to sleep first.

3- Henry gets mnm's when he is good at the potty training. He was sitting at the kitchen table and had poured them out into a pile on the table. "The letters are broken." They are rounded so it is hard to print on them so, yes, some of the m's are missing a little. Guess they are broken and can't be eaten cause he was feeding them to me! :)

The woes of moving

We have been in our new house for a little over 7 months now. We have had a couple gathering and such stuff that most things are unpacked and settled. But there are things that I just can't find, no matter how much I look for them. And I am looking EVERYWHERE. Even the places that I would never think it would be, just in case. So, where am I forgetting? I had a shoe box of my ipod stuff. Maybe one of you has happened to have seen it?!?!? I am at a loss. And I really want the arm band thingy my mom gave me so I can wear it running. Any ideas? Are you of you as absent minded as I am?

Another Update on Henry

I took Henry to his Post Operation appointment today. The Dr says he is healing very well, his eyes are straight and we should be able to transition him out of bi-focals and eventually glasses over the next several years. YAY!

24th Of July

On the 23rd we went to the Bountiful Parade. I have a couple pictures that I took for others.
This one is of Svanna on the Sunshine Generation float, she is the one in the pink hat.










We were so excited to see her (Svanna) that I didn't notice that the group right behind had a young lady from our Sunday School class. Rachel is the one on the far side pulling the cart. They just got home a couple weeks ago from a Stake Trek. I was jealous that I couldn't go.










I also love watching the old cars, don't know why, they are just cool.









Then there was the guy playing the RICOLA horn. It was fun to see, though Mike says his brother plays better. Shrug.








OH! The Jazz float picture is for you Corrine/Tim. You were so excited to take a picture for Tim that I thought you might like to see it in action.










We were in such a good spot that the kids got a TON of taffy. They were so good about picking it up and just putting it in my bag, so now I have a new stash of candy!










Before the parade I took the kids to the festivities at Bountiful Park. Libby, Henry, Lisette, and Stephanie are in the red part of the ferris wheel. It was kind of scary but they had a lot of fun.









I love the close up of Henry, he was being kinda crazy. Though Monica took an awesome close up of Henry when we were in Heber, so if you are reading this I WANT THAT PICTURE! It might have been a little long for them but we had fun. I am loving this stage for the most part!

Henry's Surgery

Henry had his surgery yesterday. We ended up being at the hospital for 7 hour. Poor guy. The surgery rooms got behind because of some complications some baby had. I hope all is ok there! When he finally got in he apparently was very entertaining for the nurses and Dr. The Dr. said that it went just as he planned. His eyes will be red for a couple weeks and needs drops in his eyes 4 times a day for 2 week, I am not excited about that one. He already seems to be feeling much better. We just can't do much with him as he can't get ANYTHING in his eyes. So no swimming or anything that might end up with him poking his eyes. So pretty much stay home and in the house. He will still have to wear glasses. Mike is the one that has been taking him to the Dr. so I need to find out what other eye problems he has besides the lazy eye. If he needs another surgery we will know in about 6 weeks. Thanks for all the calls and emails and gifts that we have gotten. Also a special thank you to David and Regina who entertained Libby for us so we didn't have to worry about her. I don't know why but this was hard for me and you all helped so much! THANK YOU!

Gibson Family Reunion

This last weekend we went up to Heber City for a Gibson Family Reunion. We learned a lot about the many James' in the family and got to know each other better and had a lot of fun. I am putting all of the pictures in the slide show so I don't have to upload them twice. If you have questions let me know!

We did do a kids talent show! Wow! We have some very talented kids in our family. Matt composed a song using Garage Band. Awesome Dude! Megann sang a solo as did Libby. Davey and Lilli sang with their parents. Henry made his pig noise, I was just proud that he was willing to perform in front of everyone.

We also played Gib-ardy, (Jeopardy). There was a short one for the kids and then a full blown version for the adults! Awesome job Jon and Monica, or as he would say, "Good Job Bud." Jon was our game show host and Monica spent an hour and a half interviewing EVERYONE to get the answers. It was awesome. Tom and Liz kicked our butts though.

Dave and Tanya did a treasure hunt for the kids, it was great. Libby was still pretending to look for clues hours later. She would make them up and go pretend to find them. I am so proud of her. At the end Mike did a presentation about where the Gibson family comes from. Very interesting stuff.

Liz did a fun craft with the kids. They decorated visors. Libby was at the table the longest and her hat was the most elaborately decorated. She was planning ahead what she was going to use. She amazes me. They all had so much fun doing that. Henry made his but wouldn't wear it, he made Mike wear it.

Jon and Monica organized it all and did a fabulous job. Since the Gibson family is Irish it was decorated for St. Patty's day! They even made a shirt for everyone. Henry's was the best, it had a dinosaur on it. And they put on all the shirts "I *Shamrock* Jim" They are awesome.

There was a black Lab that showed up in the back yard. Matt had a lot of fun playing with him.

Libby's Graduation

At Libby's pre-school graduation they all got to pick one story that they had written during the year and read it for everyone. As they did through the year after they read the story they would take one comment and one question. The running comment that night was, "I like your pictures." They were all very cute. We are so proud of you Libby. She is reading like crazy and learning new things every day! Good job kiddo.

'08 4th of July

For the 4th we went to see Wall-e. That night we went to my parents to watch fireworks. The kids sat it the back of our car, helps keep them away from the fireworks. The adults wanted a seat too so we, I mean they, sat in the back of John and Heather's van. The kids got a kick out of yelling "Run Grandpa, RUN!" as he lit each firework. They had so much fun! Thank you Grandpa! (Sorry that the pictures aren't very good. I was using my cell phone at night. Guess it isn't the best under those circumstances.)

Scrabble

On Friday night we had our friends over for dinner and fun. We ended up playing two games of Scrabble. The first game I did farely well for myself. But we were taking 9 tiles each. The second game we only took 7 tiles each. What a difference that makes. though it could have been because of the tiles we were all pulling. See picture to see what I mean! The top left was mine, top right Corrine's and the bottom was Mike's. I think mine was the worst.

Moab 08

This weekend we went to Moab with my brothers and their families. We had a lot of fun. I didn't take too many pictures as we went down to Arches 4 or 5 years ago. To see more pictures, way cute pictures, see Becca's blog, the link is on the right. We camped for two nights and went on the hike up to Delicate arch, though wrongly named, and played games. I love playing card games and talking with my siblings. I think one of the highlights was when we were telling John about some technology he didn't know about. I like feeling smart and knowing about things before them. I am not sure why I think he should be smarter and know about things before me, maybe it is because he is older. Anyone have any insight on that? The more I think about that the more I think it must just be because he is older. When I was in high school I had the opportunity to help him with his college algebra class. I am good at teaching math but I still feel that he should be smarter and more up on technology than I am. Weird how this all works out. Anyway, enjoy the pictures. And I am posting a lot because they are all way to big to email to all of you like you were so nice and did for me.

Disneyland Highlights

Here are some pictures from our California trip. If you want to see all of them they are printed and in a nice photo album at our house. They had so much fund and we had a lot of fun watching them have fun. The parades were fun, especially the Play Parade in California Adventure. All of the people were from the recent movies and the kids new them all. I can't wait to go back in several years and do all the bigger kid rides with them. We were even so lucky as to be able to be first in line on the first day that we went. Lucky things kept happening to us. I don't know what we were doing right but it made it so much fun.

Henry's Update

Just an update for all of you who haven't heard yet: Henry has the fabulous joy of wearing an eye patch for 4 hours a day until his surgery on July 18. It would have been sooner but we scheduled all of our trips when they could do it! The surgery has an 85% success rate so hopefully he only has to have it once. My poor baby. Please remember him in your prayers.

DISNEYLAND

We are only going to have internet today so I am going to tell you what we did last night and what we plan to do the rest of the time. When we get home I can update this and put up pictures.
We made it here in ten and a half hours with two stops. (WAHOO!) We got here early enough that we were able to go to downtown Disney and see Kungfoo Panda, or however you spell it. We give it four thumbs up! While we were waiting for the movie we walked around and saw some of the great stores that they have. The Lego store was a big hit. I got some pictures of the kids and Mike with R2-D2 and Darth Vader, Lego style. There was also a gynormous giraffe made out of Legos. We also got a picture of Libby in the Libby Lu store. We also wandered through the Disney store, no LGM yet mom. But I do know that there is a LGM store in Disneyland, we will check it out tomorrow. They had a lot of live music in downtown, Henry finally let me dance with him, we had a lot of fun.
I am almost better. So right now Mike is out seeing how long it will take to walk down the street to Disneyland so we know when we need to leave for Breakfast with Mickey tomorrow. After that we plan on seeing lots of princesses and hopefully Buzz and getting lots of signatures. I think the kids are getting excited about rides as they saw some yesterday but they were in California Adventure. I hope this all works out.
We will also go to Disneyland on Tuesday.
Then Wednesday it is get up and drive home day. The drive down was actually not that bad. The kids did relatively well. Lets hope they do as well on the way back.
